ASK QUESTIONS.

Whether you want to know how to use a machine, how to do an exercise properly, or you want help in using our app to sign up for a class, ask us! We are here to help.

SCHEDULE TIMES TO WORK OUT IN YOUR CALENDAR.

When you plan a time to work out into your schedule, it makes it harder to skip it. Better yet, plan to meet a friend…you’re less likely to cancel your workout when you know someone else is counting on you!

BE CONSISTENT.

When you keep to a regular schedule, you get into a routine. And when you have a routine, you’re more likely to stick to it. For those new to working out, we suggest scheduling a workout once or twice a week when you first get started. It’s less intimidating than trying to go straight to working out every day. When you work yourself into shape gradually, you’re less likely to get injured. Remember, success doesn’t happen overnight, but if you stay consistent, you WILL get there!

START SLOW AND GO AT YOUR OWN PACE.

Learn how to use one machine at a time. Repetition helps you learn. If you start out trying to learn too many new things at once, you’re less likely to do the exercises correctly, increasing your risk of injury. Feel free to ask our staff if you aren’t sure how to use a machine. We are here to help!

TRY DIFFERENT TYPES OF CLASSES.

You won’t know what you like until you try. You may surprise yourself. Don’t worry if you have problems keeping up…remember, many people in the class have been doing this a while. They were once like you. And if you have trouble with an exercise, our instructors are happy to offer modifications.

TRY SOMETHING COMPLETELY NEW

If you only use the cardio machines at the gym, try doing some workouts with weights. If you aren’t sure where to start, a few personal training sessions may be able to get you on the right track. Try a water fitness class or swimming laps. Don’t know how to swim? You’re never too old to learn! We offer swimming lessons for adults as well. Consider trying racquetball. We have racquetball courts and equipment you can sign out to borrow at the front desk. You might just find something you really like!

DON’T FORGET TO REST.

You push your body to new limits when you work out. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep. Massage is a great way to help your body relax and recover as well.

GOOD NUTRITION IS IMPORTANT.

Fueling your body properly is important, both for your energy level and your immune system. Eat “the rainbow”…a diet high in colorful fruits and vegetables, full of antioxidants like beta-carotene, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E. To get the most benefits from these types of antioxidants, eat them raw or lightly steamed. Other important foods for a healthy diet are legumes, whole grains, lean protein, and healthy fats. Healthy fats are beneficial to a good diet as well as a healthy immune system. Incorporate healthy fats like nuts and seeds, avocados and olives and fish into your diet.

DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS

It’s an easy trap to fall into, but remember, your fitness journey is your own, and no one else’s.

YOU BELONG.

Feeling self-conscious is normal, especially when everyone around you seems to know what they are doing. But no one is judging you! Wearing clothes that make you feel confident in how you look always helps. And making a playlist that inspires you will help you focus your attention on your own workout, and less on what’s going on around you. Remember, even though you may be a newbie, you have every right to be there as someone more experienced. Every person brings something new to the gym…new enthusiam, new energy, new inspiration!
