Run for a Cause: Miles for Meals

About Camella’s Cupboard
We want to thank everyone who participated in our Miles for Meals Virtual 5K Run / Walk to benefit Camella’s Cupboard. In case you’re not familiar with Camella’s Cupboard, their goal is to provide all children in New Milford access to food year-round. They do this through summer lunches, school food pantries, and weekend and break food bags. Thirty percent of our students in New Milford have a free or reduced lunch rate. Another twenty two percent of students are slightly over the threshold, but still have need. While these students receive meals during the school year, the summer becomes another challenge.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and schools were closed, Camella’s Cupboard had to react quickly. Suddenly, the number of families utilizing Camella’s Cupboard nearly quadrupled. Even now, as our the state begins reopening, there are still many people out of work or working fewer hours than before. Children are home full time without access to school breakfasts and lunch. Camella’s Cupboard is beginning their summer program with three times more children than they’ve ever had before.
We are thrilled to announce that with your support of our virtual race, we were able to raise almost $1100 for Camella’s Cupboard!

Miles for Meals: Runners and Walkers Unite for a Cause
Many from our running club at New Milford Fitness & Aquatics Club opted to do the Moonlight Race course for their 5k, since it was cancelled this year. Here’s our socially distanced group shot after we finished.

As a community, it’s important for us to step up and help one another as we are able. Camella’s Cupboard provides food security for many families in our community. While we’re thrilled we were able to meet our fund raising goal, there continues to be a need for help. Camella’s Cupboard has volunteer opportunities and are happy to accept donations of food and money. If you wish to help, you can find more information on their website.
